ParTeeOf18 vs 18Birdies: At a Glance
Golf apps all look pretty much the same until you’ve used a couple of them. Scoring, GPS yardages, stat tracking: both of these have that covered. GHIN Handicap Sync and Calculator
If you’ve ever argued about a handicap on the first tee, you already know why this section comes first.
Handicap Calculator
ParTeeOf18’s handicap calculator sorts out the first-tee math so nobody has to. Pick the course, tees and format, and it turns each player’s Official Handicap Index (Or Recreational Handicap) into a course handicap. Then it applies the allowance: Like 95% for individual stroke play or Stableford, 85% for four-ball stroke play, full difference in match play. Strokes land on the right holes by stroke index. Foursomes and scramble work too.
18Birdies works its handicap out inside the app from the rounds you’ve saved, and you get one after just a single round. It doesn’t follow the World Handicap System, though.
USGA Integration
ParTeeOf18 is a USGA Handicap Data Affiliate. What that means day to day:
- You link your GHIN ID once.
- After any round, one tap submits the score to USGA.
- Eligible scores posted through the app count toward your official Handicap Index.
- The USGA updates the index overnight, and the app turns it into a Course Handicap for whichever tees you’re playing.
So the handicap running your Nassau is the same one your club uses. No second app, no typing scores in twice. 18Birdies is upfront about this in its help center: the handicap doesn’t update or link with GHIN, and it isn’t accepted at USGA or World Handicap sanctioned events. If you need an official number, you track rounds there and post to GHIN separately.
Handicap Lookup
Handicap Lookup is a Pro feature that finds a player’s Handicap Index, then uses the Course Rating, Slope Rating and par of the tees to work out their Course Handicap. Handy when a guest turns up and you’d otherwise just take their word for it. 18Birdies doesn’t have a lookup, and its own help pages say it can’t issue an official handicap certification.
Golf Game Formats Each App Supports
Stroke Play, Match Play, Nassau, Skins, Scramble, Best Ball, Wolf, Sixes, Dots and Stableford are on both apps, so the basics are covered. The lists split after that. ParTeeOf18 has Quota, 3-Player Match Play, the 9 Point game, Footie’s Famous Sunday Game and CTP. The ParTeeOf18 free plan gets you Stroke Play, 3-Player Match Play, Match Play, and Nassau. While 18Birdies has its own in-app games like Vegas, Rolling Strokes, Points and Targets, plus Alternate Shot in its Team Mode.
GPS Yardages and 3D Green Maps
GPS yardages are free on both so neither one leaves you guessing on distances. Greens are where they part ways. On ParTeeOf18, 3D green maps are an add-on you pay for only if you want them. On 18Birdies, they come bundled with Premium.
GPS Distances
ParTeeOf18‘s free plan gives you precise distances to greens, hazards and other landmarks on 40,000+ courses. 18Birdies covers 45,000+ courses, with free yardages to greens, hazards, layups and carries. For most shots, plain yardage is what you need, and either app gives you that.
3D Green Maps
On ParTeeOf18, 3D green maps are an add-on at $4.79 a month. You get green contours, heat maps and putt maps across 19,000 courses. If green reading isn’t your thing, don’t bother and you pay nothing extra. 18Birdies does it differently: the 3D maps are part of Premium, and they come from Strackaline Green Maps.
Stat Tracking and Shot Tracking
Tracking is the simple stuff your score, fairways hit, greens in regulation, putts. Shot tracking is more work, because you log every swing, including the club you used and where the ball ended up. Which one suits you depends on how much tapping you’re willing to do mid-round, so here’s how they compare.
| Key Aspects | ParTeeOf18 | 18Birdies |
|---|---|---|
| Stat Tracking | Pro plan | Free (round stats, putts, short game, scoring stats, full round history) |
| Advanced Stats | Performance Analysis and Stat Comparison Coming Soon | Advanced Stats with extra charts and custom filters (Premium) |
| Strokes Gained | Not Offered | Premium |
| Shot Tracking, Manual | Manual Tracking Coming Soon | Free |
| Shot Tracking, Automatic | Not listed | Smart Tracking auto shot detection (Premium) |
| Putting Insights | 3D Green Heat Maps and Putt Maps | Putt breaks via 3D Green Maps |
| Price for the Stats | Pro: $6.99/mo, $67.90/yr | Premium: $19.99/mo, $99.99/yr, $7.99/wk |
Golf Tournament/Trip Management
Most golf apps stop at scoring the round. ParTeeOf18 goes further and handles the trips itself. Say you’re running a Saturday money game or a four-day trip. One person can set it up, pair the field, collect the cash and pay out the winners, with no spreadsheet, no separate group chat and no paper tee sheet. Players use the app, and organizers get Trip Manager, a full console behind it. It’s all in one system, so whoever’s running the thing actually gets to play. 18Birdies has solid live leaderboards, but it leaves much of the organizer’s work to you.
| Feature | ParTeeOf18 Trip Manager | 18Birdies |
|---|---|---|
| Live Leaderboard and Scorecard | Yes | Yes |
| Scoring Formats | Stroke Play, Nassau, Footie’s Famous Sunday, Quota, Stableford, Best Ball, Match Play, Scramble, Skins, Canadian Skins, 6’s (Sixes), and Ryder Cup | Individual Stroke Play, Stableford, Best Ball, Scramble, and Stroke Play + Best Ball |
| Multi-Round Events | Multiple rounds as one game or tournament, plus multi-round series | Yes |
| Organizer Tools | Web console for trips, courses, roster, teams and flights, calendar | App Only |
| Pairings | Randomizer with five modes, or pair by hand | Organizers build groups by hand |
| Tee Sheets | Emailed to players | No |
| Scoring from the Web | Yes, with a toggle for mobile score entry | App Only |
| Entry Fees and Prizes | Wallet collects entry fees, and prize and winnings distribution is built in | Payout calculator that shows who owes whom, but no money moves |
| Trip Extras | Photo gallery and trip talk, social feed | Social feed |
| Player Limit | Varies by plan | No maximum |
To be fair, 18Birdies does some things better. Players can find public tournaments and leagues from a course profile, it supports virtual events, and its free tournaments have no player cap. Trip Manager and the multi-game, multi-round scoring are still coming soon to ParTeeOf18, so the organizer side will keep growing.
Golf Pairing Randomizer
The ParTeeOf18 Randomizer builds pairings for anything from an 4-player group outing to a 120+ players member event, and it’s on the free plan. If someone gets skipped or a spreadsheet leaves you with a threesome, add the missing player and run the pairings again. You don’t have to start over. 18Birdies has nothing like this. Organizers there invite players and make the groups manually.
Blind Draw for Uneven Groups
Blind draw is how we handles unequal groups. Say one group has four players and another has three. A randomly selected player from the bigger group has their score mirrored into the smaller group, so a threesome can play a fair game against a foursome without anyone arguing on the first tee. It’s on the free plan, 18Birdies doesn’t list something like it.
Golf Wallet vs Payout Calculator
ParTeeOf18: the in-app wallet holds a balance you top up by card, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay or Google Pay. It covers trips entry fees, settles side bets when the game ends, keeps a full transaction history, and lets you withdraw whatever’s left to your linked account. Nobody’s chasing cash in the parking lot.
18Birdies: a payout section shows who owes whom after a game. No money moves, and 18Birdies says it doesn’t handle payments directly, so you settle up some other way.
ParTeeOf18 Pro vs 18Birdies Premium Pricing
Free Plans
ParTeeOf18‘s free plan doesn’t expire and doesn’t ask for a card. You get Stroke Play, 3-Player Match Play, Match Play, and Nassau, live scoring and leaderboard, USGA integration, precise GPS distances on 40000+ courses, side games(CTP and Dots), multiplayer scoring, the wallet, the randomizer, blind draw, rounds for up to 24 players, social feed and growing community, and all six languages. 18Birdies’ free plan is generous too: GPS on 45,000+ courses, a digital scorecard, stats, shot tracking, Apple Watch and Wear OS apps, the community, side games, and tournaments and leagues.
Paid Plans
ParTeeOf18
- Pro: $6.99 a month or $67.90 a year, with a 7-day free trial.
- 3D green maps add-on: $4.79 a month or $49.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial.
18Birdies
- Premium: $19.99 a month, $99.99 a year or $7.99 a week. Monthly and yearly come with 7-day trials.
ParTeeOf18 Pro on its own is $32.09 a year more affordable than 18Birdies Premium. Add the 3D maps and you’re $8.21 a month under Premium, but paying yearly for both ParTeeOf18 plans puts you $17.90 over it.
The money buys different things, too. Pro opens up the rest of the formats (Stableford, Skins, Quota, Best Ball, Scramble, 6’s and Footie’s Famous Sunday Game), Handicap Lookup, GHIN score posting, stat tracking, unlimited field size, multiple games per round and multi-round events. Shot and Club tracking is also on the way to launch soon.
That’s all about running the game. 18birdies Premium gets you plays-like distances, club recommendations, advanced stats, strokes gained, 3D green maps, course strategy and the AI Swing Analyzer, which is more about studying your own swing and numbers.
Community and Languages
18Birdies has the bigger community, more people, a busy social feed, public events you can join. Ours is smaller, but it’s growing, and it covers the: friends, a social feed, and in-app messaging. Where ParTeeOf18 takes over is it runs in English, Japanese, Thai, Arabic, Spanish and French, which helps if your group is a mix. Everyone can read the scorecard in their own language, so nobody’s gazing at a screen trying to work out who made par.
Why Choose ParTeeOf18?
Most golf is played with other people, and if that’s you, ParTeeOf18 is the better golf app. It handles a Saturday four-ball and a club championship equally well, and the six languages mean everyone in the group can read the scorecard. If you like 18Birdies for GPS, keep it. Just run the group round on ParTeeOf18.
- USGA-connected handicap: link GHIN once and post eligible scores from the app.
- Randomizer and blind draw: fair groups and fair games, and both are free.
- Wallet: entry fees, side bets and payouts all settle in the app.
- Quota, 9 Point Game and Footie’s Famous Sunday Game: formats 18Birdies doesn’t list.
- Lower Pro price: $67.90 a year against $99.99.
Where 18Birdies is ahead today: Shot tracking, plays-like distances, strokes gained, an AI swing coach, an Apple Watch app, and free tournaments with no player limit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is ParTeeOf18 or 18Birdies better for group rounds?
ParTeeOf18. It has a USGA-linked handicap, a randomizer, blind draw, a wallet, so teams, games, scores, leaderboards, side bets, complete trip management and official handicaps all live in one app. 18Birdies suits golfers working on their own game, and organizers who want free tournaments with no player cap.
Is ParTeeOf18 only for group games?
No. It’s an all-in-one golf app with scoring, GPS on 40,000+ courses, 3D green maps, stat tracking and an official handicap. Shot and club tracking, performance analysis and stat comparison are coming soon.
Does 18Birdies sync with GHIN like ParTeeOf18 does?
No. Its help center says the handicap doesn’t update or link with GHIN and isn’t accepted at USGA-sanctioned events. ParTeeOf18 is a USGA Authorized Handicap Data Affiliate, so you can link your GHIN ID and post eligible scores toward your official Handicap Index.
Does 18Birdies have a team randomizer like ParTeeOf18?
Not that we could find in its feature lists or help pages. ParTeeOf18‘s randomizer pairs players randomly, manually, by handicap, or with AB and ABCD tiers. It copes with fields of 120+ and it’s free. On 18Birdies, organizers build groups by hand.
What is blind draw scoring, and does 18Birdies have it?
It mirrors a randomly selected player’s score from a bigger group into a smaller one, so groups of different sizes can still play a fair game. ParTeeOf18 includes it on the free plan. 18Birdies doesn’t list it.
How does the ParTeeOf18 Wallet compare with 18Birdies’ payout tracker?
The ParTeeOf18 wallet moves real money. You add funds, pay entry fees, settle side bets and withdraw. 18Birdies’ payout section only shows who owes whom, so the actual settling up happens outside the app.
Does ParTeeOf18 have GPS like 18Birdies?
Yes. The free plan has precise GPS distances on 40,000+ courses. 18Birdies covers 45,000+. Also we are constantly adding more courses into our list.
Which is more affordable, ParTeeOf18 or 18Birdies?
On price, ParTeeOf18 vs 18Birdies comes down to this: Pro is $6.99 a month or $67.90 a year, while 18Birdies Premium is $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Add the 3D maps and ParTeeOf18 is $11.78 a month or $117.89 a year.
Can I use both apps?
Use 18Birdies for swing analyzer and plays like distance, and ParTeeOf18 for the group game. If you’d rather keep just one, ParTeeOf18 covers scoring, handicap, games and money in one place. And if you want scores to count toward your official USGA handicap, post them through ParTeeOf18, since 18Birdies doesn’t link to GHIN.
